A lifelong relationship with creativity and play

Kate comes to therapy through a lifelong background in the arts. Before becoming a therapist, she spent many years creating and performing music and theatre for children and families and working as a screenwriter. She also worked as a therapeutic clown at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), an experience that deepened her understanding of play, imagination, attunement and connection with children in vulnerable moments.

She is a graduate of the CREATE Institute’s Intermodal Expressive Arts Therapy program and brings together therapeutic training with more than two decades of creative work with children and families.

How Kate works

Kate’s approach is warm, playful, relational and trauma-informed. Sessions may include visual art, storytelling, music, movement, drama, imaginative play or conversation, depending on what feels most natural and engaging for each child.

At the heart of Kate’s work is a belief that creativity belongs to everyone. She is passionate about helping children experience art as a natural way to explore themselves, express what they feel, connect with others and make sense of their world—and to discover creative practices they can return to throughout their lives as a resource for reflection, connection and self-care.

Experience with children, families and communities

Alongside her private practice, Kate works with children and youth at Armagh House and has facilitated trauma-informed groups for children and families through Child Development Institute’s Here to Help program. Her work has included supporting children and families healing from family violence and navigating significant life changes, as well as work in schools, community arts programs and other therapeutic settings.

Kate has also worked extensively as an artist, facilitator and community song leader, creating collaborative spaces where children and adults can connect through music, movement, storytelling and shared creative practice.
